This sale supports U.S. strategic objectives by enhancing the security of a key Indo-Pacific ally, reinforcing South Korea’s role as a stabilizing force in the region. The procurement will bolster South Korea’s capability to address current and future threats by strengthening its precision strike capacity to deter aggression and ensure seamless interoperability with U.S. forces. As South Korea already operates the Maverick system, it can readily integrate these new missiles into its existing military inventory.

The principal contractor for this sale is RTX Corporation of Arlington, Virginia. The U.S. government notes that while offset agreements are often requested, none are currently anticipated for this potential sale. The implementation of this agreement is designed to be streamlined, requiring no additional U.S. government or contractor personnel to be stationed in South Korea. Officially, the sale is assessed as not altering the fundamental military balance in the region and will not adversely impact U.S. defense readiness. The final cost may be lower pending the finalization of negotiations and formal agreements.
