The U.S. Army has selected Persistent Systems, LLC to deliver its Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) network prototype. A $34 million initial order will outfit the 4th Infantry Division with the company’s Wave Relay® mobile ad hoc networking (MANET) technology. This decision follows a successful demonstration at Project Convergence – Capstone 5 (PC-C5), where the network proved its scalability and capacity to handle massive data from cameras, sensors, and software for an entire armored battalion.

The enhanced communications enabled precise coordination of complex maneuvers, like a combined arms breach, between M1A1 tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles. This prototype is expected to inform the broader Army networking strategy, showcasing critical capabilities like interoperability, data fusion, and constant connectivity on a networked battlefield.

As the NGC2 experimental division, the 4th Infantry Division will use MPU5 and Personal Transport (PT5) devices for further testing at Project Convergence-Capstone 6 (PC-C6). Successful technologies will drive Programs of Record for wider fielding. NGC2 represents the Army’s new approach to empower warfighters with advanced commercial communications technology, aiming to transform command and control and accelerate lethal decision-making. Persistent Systems stands at the forefront of this Army modernization push.
