U.S. Army Awards General Dynamics Mission Systems Contract to Deliver Initial CMFF Prototype Systems

by BDR Staff

General Dynamics Mission Systems has been awarded a $28.3 million, two-year Army contract to deliver prototype CMOSS Mounted Form Factor (CMFF) systems. This initiative, awarded via the PEO C3N PM Mission Command, focuses on creating a modular, open-architecture solution for command, control, communications, computers, cyber, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare (C5ISR/EW).

The CMFF system consolidates capabilities like computing, radio, and electronic warfare into a single, vehicle-mountable chassis using commercial, open-standard 3U VPX boards. This design allows for rapid, swappable technology upgrades from multiple vendors, enabling the Army to develop, test, and field new capabilities in a DevSecOps mode. The system is engineered with NSA-certifiable multi-level security, electromagnetic hardening, and tactical ruggedization. It is optimized to run advanced battlefield software like Palantir Maven and is designed to fit in existing vehicle radio spaces and future aviation platforms, including the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft, without costly modifications.

General Dynamics emphasizes that its production-ready chassis, aligned with the CMFF Reference Architecture, is a significant investment to ensure a scalable, soldier-focused solution from day one, supported by the company’s extensive manufacturing capacity for a swift transition from prototyping to full-scale production.
