Firefly Aerospace has finalized its acquisition of SciTec, Inc., a move that strategically merges cutting-edge launch and space vehicles with advanced, AI-powered defense software. This transaction significantly elevates Firefly’s role as a comprehensive provider for high-stakes national security missions.
The integration of SciTec’s specialized technologies brings several critical advantages to the combined company. Primarily, it adds battle-tested, AI-enabled software for missile warning and defense, intelligence and reconnaissance, and autonomous command and control. This software backbone will be paired with Firefly’s proven hardware, creating integrated systems for space-based interceptors, hypersonic testing, and space domain awareness.
Furthermore, the acquisition delivers a substantial boost in talent and infrastructure. Firefly gains over 475 employees renowned for their expertise in multi-phenomenology systems and software development for classified programs. This expanded team is supported by state-of-the-art facilities, including secure data centers, mission operations labs, and classified infrastructure across six strategic locations.
SciTec also contributes a robust portfolio of active contracts with growing revenue, serving the intelligence community, defense agencies, and commercial customers. This solidifies the financial and operational foundation for future ambitious projects.
“We’re proud to officially join the Firefly team and look forward to combining our software and hardware capabilities,” said Jim Lisowski, CEO of SciTec. “Both companies have become known for executing incredibly difficult missions, from delivering a modernized missile warning system to successfully landing on the Moon. Together we’ll be unstoppable.”
SciTec will operate as a subsidiary of Firefly, maintaining its current business model. Jim Lisowski will continue as CEO, reporting directly to Firefly CEO Jason Kim. This structure ensures the preservation of SciTec’s unique culture and expertise while enabling deep collaboration across the entire organization.
