Teledyne FLIR Defense has secured a $42.5 million contract to supply the U.S. Marine Corps with advanced loitering munition systems under the Organic Precision Fires-Light (OPF-L) program. The contract calls for the delivery of more than 600 Rogue 1™ systems, ground control stations, and training kits, with fielding to Marine units set to begin this summer.

The OPF-L program is designed to equip Marine rifle squads and platoons with a man-packable, organic capability for precision strikes against enemy targets beyond their line of sight. The Rogue 1 is a tube-launched, lethal loitering munition—often described as a “kamikaze drone”—that provides ground forces with immediate, on-call firepower.

Proven in multiple exercises, the Rogue 1 has successfully engaged a variety of targets, including moving and stationary armored vehicles and dismounted personnel. A key feature is its modular payload system, which allows operators to attach mission-specific warheads optimized for different target types. The system also incorporates an advanced fuzing mechanism that enables operators to safely recall and reuse the drone if a mission is aborted or a target disengages, reducing logistical burden and increasing cost-effectiveness in training and operations.

For target acquisition and terminal guidance, the Rogue 1 is equipped with advanced electro-optical and FLIR Boson® 640+ thermal cameras, providing long-range reconnaissance and surveillance day or night. A novel integration between the gimballed sensor payload and warhead is credited with delivering extreme targeting precision.

“The accuracy and modularity of the Rogue 1 platform will enhance Marine lethality against whatever threats they may encounter in future conflicts,” said Dr. JihFen Lei, president of Teledyne FLIR Defense.

The award marks a significant milestone for Teledyne, representing its first major production contract in the loitering munition market. “This award represents our first production rate contract in the loitering munition market, following the initial test and evaluation contract in 2024,” said George Bobb, president and CEO of Teledyne Technologies. The company, known for a broad portfolio of unmanned air, ground, and maritime systems, is now positioned as a key supplier in this rapidly evolving segment of modern warfare.
