Leonardo DRS expands defense collaboration with Saudi Arabia.

by BDR Staff

Leonardo DRS has signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense (MOD), marking a significant step to support the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 defense modernization. The agreement, signed in Washington, D.C., follows the recent U.S.-Saudi Strategic Defense Agreement and focuses on enhancing the capabilities of MOD ground combat vehicles and dismounted soldiers.

Signed by Bill Guyan, Senior Vice President of Leonardo DRS, and Eng. Khalid Al-Jawini of the Saudi MOD, the MOI identifies key collaboration areas where Leonardo DRS provides combat-proven expertise. These include advanced battle management systems for real-time crew awareness, C6ISR solutions for faster brigade-level decision-making, and rugged vehicle computing hardware. The partnership also covers advanced communication systems, mobile situational awareness tools for dismounted forces, and comprehensive vehicle integration services to modernize the Saudi vehicle fleet.

“This MOI reinforces our commitment to delivering a more connected, protected, and effective land force for Saudi Arabia,” said Guyan. “As a trusted provider to the U.S. and allied militaries, we are proud to potentially expand our role in supporting the Kingdom’s national defense strategy.”

The agreement aligns with Leonardo DRS’s strategy to grow its Middle East presence and expand regional industrial cooperation. It builds upon an existing partnership with Saudi Arabia’s SAMI Advanced Electronics Company, focusing on localizing rugged vehicle hardware production. This supports Vision 2030’s core goals of building indigenous industrial capability and strengthening national defense readiness.

Leonardo DRS is a leader in advanced battle management, network computing, and vehicle integration. The company’s high-performance tactical computing, AI-enabled processing, and integrated C4/C5/C6ISR solutions are designed to provide scalable, platform-agnostic systems that reduce cognitive burden and deliver critical real-time situational awareness in complex combat environments.
