Northrop Grumman has unveiled Project Talon, a new autonomous aircraft designed to operate as a collaborative wingman alongside crewed fighter jets. This announcement marks a significant evolution in the company’s autonomous systems portfolio, introducing an adaptive platform aimed at redefining air dominance through human-machine teaming.

Representing a paradigm shift, Project Talon is engineered to act as a force multiplier for combat missions. It enhances mission effectiveness by increasing overall lethality, survivability, and tactical adaptability. The system is built to project power in dynamic, high-threat environments, offering U.S. and international partners a versatile new capability.

A cornerstone of Project Talon’s development is unprecedented speed. The aircraft was designed, built, and brought to the flight-testing phase in under 24 months. The program was accelerated by Northrop Grumman’s autonomous testbed ecosystem, Beacon. This platform allowed for the rapid testing and maturation of Project Talon’s critical avionics and mission software in real-world environments before the first flight.

Northrop Grumman draws upon more than seven decades of experience developing and deploying advanced autonomous systems across air, sea, and land domains. This legacy includes over 500,000 hours of autonomous flight test data, providing a battle-tested foundation for next-generation platforms like Talon.
