Sensor specialist and systems integrator HENSOLDT has been formally appointed by the German Federal Ministry of Defence, the Canadian Commercial Corporation, and Lockheed Martin Canada to serve as the Germany-based contractor for a critical naval modernization program. Under this contract, HENSOLDT will lead the integration of the advanced CMS 330 Combat Management System into selected German Navy vessels, with preparatory work set to commence imminently.

The collaboration aims to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the German Navy by leveraging a proven, interoperable platform. The CMS 330, developed and maintained by Lockheed Martin Canada, has been the cornerstone of the Royal Canadian Navy’s fleet for over 15 years. Its open-architecture design allows for the seamless integration of a ship’s sensors, weapons, and communications systems, providing command teams with superior situational awareness and accelerated decision-making in complex threat environments.

HENSOLDT’s role will be pivotal in adapting this sophisticated system to the specific requirements of the German Bundeswehr. In the coming days, its team will initiate detailed analyses covering crucial areas such as information security, design adaptation, and long-term in-service support. This preparatory phase is essential for ensuring a smooth and effective integration process, which is scheduled to begin on German platforms in early 2026.

“We are honored by the trust placed in our integration expertise for this strategically vital program,” stated Oliver Dörre, CEO of HENSOLDT. “As Lockheed Martin Canada’s reliable partner, we, alongside other national and international firms, are committed to delivering a solution that sustainably strengthens the German Navy’s operational readiness.”

The partnership underscores a deepening of transatlantic defense cooperation. “HENSOLDT is the ideal partner in Germany for the CMS 330 integration,” said Glenn Copeland, General Manager of Lockheed Martin Canada Rotary and Mission Systems. “This government-backed collaboration fortifies our alliance, fosters technological and economic growth, and ultimately bolsters collective security.”

Beyond enhancing single-platform performance, the widespread adoption of CMS 330 across allied navies promises greater fleet interoperability, reduced long-term training and sustainment costs, and more effective joint operations in multinational task forces.
