Elbit Systems has announced a series of new contracts totaling approximately $150 million for its advanced Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) self-protection systems, underscoring its expanding role in European aerial defense.
The first major contract involves equipping the entire aircraft fleet of an undisclosed European nation with Elbit’s cutting-edge DIRCM technology. This comprehensive fleet-wide upgrade is designed to provide a critical layer of protection for high-value airborne assets. Furthermore, the company has received additional orders to supply DIRCM systems for the transport aircraft fleets of several European NATO member countries. These systems will directly enhance the operational safety and survivability of strategic airlift missions, which are vital for troop and equipment mobility.
These latest agreements expand upon a growing list of European and global contracts for Elbit, solidifying its position as a leading provider of aircraft protection solutions. The core technology being supplied is the company’s proven J-MUSIC™ DIRCM system, which is specifically engineered to defend aircraft against infrared-guided threats, particularly shoulder-fired missiles (MANPADS). The system combines advanced laser-jamming technology with state-of-the-art infrared imaging to detect, track, and defeat incoming missiles.
A key strength of Elbit’s DIRCM offering is its platform-agnostic design, allowing for seamless integration on a wide spectrum of military and commercial aircraft. This flexibility, coupled with proven performance in countering evolving threats, provides operators with reliable defense, mission assurance, and enhanced safety for both aircrews and critical missions.
Commenting on the contracts, Oren Sabag, General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW, stated: “The continued trust the European and global community places in Elbit Systems’ DIRCM self-protection solutions reflects the company’s growing reputation as an innovative airborne defense technology provider. We are committed to delivering effective protection for aircraft and personnel against the most advanced threats.”
This $150 million investment by European partners signals a significant commitment to modernizing airborne survivability in an increasingly complex threat environment, with Elbit Systems positioned as a central contributor to this strategic defense enhancement.
