Joby Aviation has announced the acquisition of a new, ready-to-use manufacturing facility exceeding 700,000 square feet in the Dayton, Ohio area. This strategic expansion will directly support the company’s plan to double its production rate, targeting a capacity of four aircraft per month by 2027. Operations at the new site are set to begin this year.

The facility significantly bolsters Joby’s existing manufacturing footprint in Marina, California, and at its other Ohio location. It is designed to accommodate near-term scaling and provide a foundation for substantial long-term growth as the market for electric air taxis develops.

“This site enables our critical production doubling and positions us for the future scale the market demands,” said JoeBen Bevirt, Joby’s Founder and CEO. He highlighted Ohio’s deep aerospace heritage, from the Wright Brothers to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, as a cornerstone of the company’s national manufacturing strategy. “With strong governmental support, we’re ensuring the future of flight is built right here in America.”

Ohio leaders welcomed the continued investment. Governor Mike DeWine connected the move to the state’s aviation legacy and advanced manufacturing workforce. U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno framed it as part of a broader national reindustrialization effort, while Senator Jon Husted emphasized new job creation for Ohioans.

The expansion occurs alongside growing policy momentum for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) in the U.S. The recent unveiling of a national AAM strategy by the Department of Transportation provides a regulatory roadmap, complementing the planned launch of the Federal Aviation Administration’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program in 2026. These initiatives aim to accelerate the safe integration of aircraft like Joby’s into the national airspace.

To support its accelerated production timeline, Joby has already begun procuring necessary capital equipment and is actively hiring for round-the-clock operations in California. The company’s latest move solidifies Ohio’s role as a central hub in its plan to bring scalable, commercial electric air taxi service to market.
