General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) announced it has been awarded the inaugural task order under the U.S. Air Force’s massive $8.75 billion Base Infrastructure Modernization (BIM) program. The $131 million contract, awarded in July 2025, initiates a critical effort to overhaul network infrastructure at Air Force bases across the strategically vital Pacific region.
The BIM program represents a global initiative to unify and secure network environments for both the Air and Space Force. This first task order positions GDIT to implement advanced wired and wireless technologies, aiming to create a seamless, high-performance digital backbone. The upgrades are designed to directly enhance operational capabilities by improving connectivity, fortifying cybersecurity, ensuring interoperability with allied partners, and bolstering data readiness for commanders and personnel.
Brian Sheridan, GDIT senior vice president for Defense, emphasized the strategic importance of the project. “Our national security depends on the ability to connect, share information, and act without delay,” he stated. “We look forward to delivering a next-generation network infrastructure to our Pacific forces so they can communicate, operate, and respond with speed and precision.”
The contract includes a one-year base period followed by four one-year options, allowing for sustained development and implementation. This award builds on GDIT’s long-standing relationship with the Air Force, spanning over five decades of support in areas including cybersecurity, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and enterprise IT modernization. The company’s stated goal for the BIM project is to strengthen readiness and operational agility, ensuring the seamless flow of information for Airmen and Guardians facing dynamic challenges in the Pacific theater.
