Vietjet Air has solidified its long-term fleet expansion strategy with a major new order for 44 Airbus A320neo family aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines. The deal, announced today, includes 24 A321neo and 20 A321XLR variants, increasing Vietjet’s total GTF-powered commitments to 137 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in July 2026.

Alongside the aircraft order, Vietjet has signed a 12-year EngineWise® Comprehensive service agreement, ensuring Pratt & Whitney provides dedicated maintenance support for the growing fleet.

The move reinforces a partnership that began a decade ago, when Vietjet first selected GTF engines for its narrowbody fleet. The airline received its first A321neo in 2018 and now operates 42 GTF-powered aircraft. Prior to this announcement, Vietjet had committed to up to 93 aircraft of the same type.

For the Vietnamese carrier, the choice is driven by operational economics and environmental performance. The GTF engine reduces fuel burn and carbon emissions by up to 20% compared to previous-generation engines, while also delivering a 75% smaller noise footprint. These efficiencies support Vietjet’s rapid network expansion across Asia and beyond.

“Vietjet values our relationship with Pratt & Whitney and its latest generation technology,” said Nguyen Thanh Son, Managing Director of Vietjet. “The GTF engine is powering our growth with industry-leading operating economics and fuel efficiency. We continue to trust in the long-term, comprehensive and responsible partnership with Pratt & Whitney.”

Pratt & Whitney President of Commercial Engines Rick Deurloo echoed the sentiment. “Ten years ago, Vietjet joined the Pratt & Whitney GTF family and this selection demonstrates the airline’s continued confidence in the GTF engine. With this latest order, Vietjet will further realize the benefits of the most efficient engine for single-aisle aircraft and our ongoing commitment to enabling their network expansion.”

The GTF program continues to scale. To date, more than 2,600 GTF-powered aircraft have been delivered to over 90 customers worldwide. Pratt & Whitney is also preparing to introduce the GTF Advantage engine, expected to enter service later this year. It offers enhanced payload and range capability, along with a more durable configuration that delivers up to double the time on wing.

In parallel, Pratt & Whitney is expanding its GTF maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) network capacity and increasing supply chain output to meet sustained customer demand. The latest Vietjet order reflects both near-term growth ambitions and long-term confidence in GTF technology.
