Mehler Protection unveils Omega Core, its next-generation ultra-light combat helmet.

Mehler Protection, a specialist in ballistic solutions, has announced the launch of its latest innovation: the Omega Core combat helmet. Designed for modern military and tactical operations, the new system prioritizes a significant reduction in weight without compromising on protection or mission adaptability.

The core advancement of the Omega Core lies in its material engineering. By utilizing an optimized composite structure of Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), the helmet achieves a weight saving of approximately 20 percent compared to current standard-issue models like those used by the German armed forces. This reduction directly addresses the physical strain on operators, aiming to minimize neck fatigue and improve mobility during extended deployments.

Beyond its lightweight construction, the Omega Core is built as a comprehensive platform. It features an integrated shell design that manages energy dissipation and incorporates an open rail architecture. This allows for the seamless attachment of essential mission equipment, including night vision devices, communication headsets, visors, and hearing protection. The interior is engineered for stability and comfort, utilizing multi-chamber padding and a ventilated suspension system to reduce heat buildup and ensure a secure fit under dynamic conditions.

Rigorous testing underpins the helmet’s development. It has been evaluated against established military standards for ballistic resistance and impact attenuation, including STANAG 2920 for fragmentation protection and tests against common handgun threats such as 9mm and .44 Magnum rounds. The design focuses on managing backface deformation and deflecting fragments effectively.

Production of the Omega Core is centered at Mehler Protection’s automated facility in Fulda, Germany. The company has established a production line capable of manufacturing over 50,000 units annually, with a strategy in place to rapidly scale output in response to large-scale defense contracts. This approach is supported by a resilient European supply chain and dual-sourcing for critical components.

The Omega Core system will be presented to the international defense community at the Enforce Tac exhibition in 2026.
