Specialist aircraft lessor TrueNoord has announced the delivery of three brand-new Airbus A220-300s to US low-cost carrier Breeze Airways. Completed in February 2026 under a long-term sale-and-leaseback arrangement, the transaction introduces the Airbus platform to TrueNoord’s portfolio for the first time. The A220-300 now stands as the largest aircraft type operated by the lessor, signaling a strategic move up in aircraft capacity.

The deal supports Breeze Airways’ ongoing transition toward a simplified, single-type fleet centered around the A220. According to Maarten Grift, TrueNoord Sales Director for the Americas, the aircraft’s modern design and lower operating costs are critical enablers for Breeze’s route strategy. By deploying the A220, the airline can profitably connect mid-sized cities that lack the demand to support mainline narrowbody service. Grift noted that this trend is accelerating as carriers across the region seek to replace older equipment with more sustainable and economically efficient models.

For Breeze, the injection of new aircraft is vital to maintaining service quality and network reach. Chief Financial Officer Trent Porter acknowledged TrueNoord’s role in facilitating this growth, allowing the airline to continue its mission of connecting guests across the US, Mexico, and the Caribbean. From a financial perspective, TrueNoord’s Paul Murphy described the deal as a textbook example of prudent capital allocation, strengthening the lessor’s asset base with modern, in-demand equipment that promises long-term operational and financial stability.

TrueNoord CEO Anne-Bart Tieleman characterized the deliveries as a landmark achievement that sets the tone for the company’s future. He emphasized that the appetite for 100-150 seat next-generation aircraft remains strong, with the A220 perfectly complementing the company’s existing investments in the Embraer E2 family. This transaction underscores TrueNoord’s commitment to backing innovative airlines with the tools they need to grow efficiently, paving the way for an ambitious growth trajectory through the remainder of the decade.
