Airbus Helicopters has solidified its decades-long partnership with Japan’s National Police Agency (NPA) following a new order for three H135 light twins. The aircraft, part of an ongoing fleet modernisation programme, will be deployed to bolster public safety in Hokkaido, Shimane, and Miyagi prefectures.
The selection of the H135 underscores the NPA’s focus on acquiring high-performance, reliable technology for its diverse operational needs. The helicopter is engineered for multi-role efficiency, capable of transitioning seamlessly between high-visibility patrol duties, critical search and rescue incidents, and secure tactical transport. This versatility makes it an ideal force multiplier for prefectural police forces.
At the heart of the aircraft’s capability is Airbus Helicopters’ Helionix avionics suite. This digital system reduces pilot fatigue through its 4-axis autopilot while enhancing safety with an innovative cockpit layout. The three large electronic displays provide at-a-glance flight data and are fully compatible with night vision goggles, ensuring mission effectiveness in low-light conditions. A key safety feature is the First Limit Indicator, which automatically highlights the most critical engine parameter, allowing pilots to maintain focus on the mission rather than scanning multiple gauges.
This latest acquisition builds on recent momentum, following the delivery of an H135 to the Hiroshima Prefectural Police in late 2025. In Hiroshima, the new helicopter operates in tandem with an AS365, proving the seamless integration and interoperability of Airbus assets within a single department’s operations.
With the NPA’s total Airbus fleet now standing at 26 units, the relationship extends beyond hardware. “We are honoured by the National Police Agency’s continued trust in the H135,” said Jean-Luc Alfonsi, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Japan. “The H135’s proven reliability and high performance make it the definitive platform for law enforcement.
