AeroVironment (AV) announced a major expansion of its manufacturing operations in Albuquerque, New Mexico, backed by a $30 million investment. Supported by $6 million in performance-based incentives from the state and city, the project aims to create over 450 high-wage jobs and generate more than $670 million in economic impact over the next decade.

The expansion will enhance AV’s three existing sites in the Sandia Science & Technology Park, transforming them into a vertically integrated, next-generation manufacturing campus. The facility will focus on scaling production of directed energy systems, space-grade components, and other mission-critical technologies essential to national security.

CEO Wahid Nawabi emphasized the strategic importance of the move, stating it strengthens both the company and the domestic defense industrial base. With a current workforce of over 400 in Albuquerque and nearly 30 percent annual growth, AV views New Mexico as a vital partner in building resilient supply chains and accelerating delivery of advanced capabilities to U.S. military customers.

Mayor Tim Keller highlighted the role of local economic development support in bringing hundreds of good-paying jobs to the city, reinforcing Albuquerque’s position as a hub where defense innovation meets advanced manufacturing.
