The Brazilian Army Aviation Command has received its inaugural UH-60M Black Hawk utility helicopter, marking the commencement of a strategic fleet modernization program. This delivery is the first of 12 new aircraft slated to significantly upgrade Brazil’s aerial operational capacity across a spectrum of military and civil support roles.

The advanced UH-60M model will serve as a multi-role workhorse for the nation. Its primary missions will encompass tactical troop transportation, critical medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), complex search and rescue (SAR) operations, and rapid disaster response, thereby bolstering both national defense and humanitarian assistance capabilities.

Rich Benton, Sikorsky’s Vice President and General Manager, highlighted the milestone as a deepening of a longstanding alliance. “This delivery underscores a trusted, decades-long collaboration,” Benton stated. “We are dedicated to providing comprehensive logistical and sustainment support to guarantee these aircraft meet the Brazilian Army’s operational demands for years to come.”

Brazil’s history with the Black Hawk platform is extensive, fostering a 28-year partnership with Sikorsky. The Army first integrated earlier Black Hawk models into its inventory in 1997, with consistent OEM support maintaining high readiness rates. Furthermore, the Brazilian Air Force independently operates a fleet of UH-60L variants, a parallel deployment that promotes potential interoperability and shared operational understanding across the Brazilian armed services.

This acquisition of the newer, more capable UH-60Ms represents a substantial investment in the Army’s aviation future. The aircraft features enhanced digital avionics, improved durability, and greater lift capacity compared to its predecessors. The phased introduction of all twelve helicopters is expected to provide a transformative boost to the Army’s reach, flexibility, and effectiveness in safeguarding Brazil’s vast territory and supporting its populace during emergencies.
