CaMo Program Hits New Milestone With 269 More Vehicles.

by BDR Staff

The French General Directorate for Armament (DGA) placed a significant order with KNDS France on behalf of Belgium, marking a major expansion of the Capacité Motorisée (CaMo) program. The order comprises 92 new Griffon multi-role armored vehicles and 123 Serval light armored vehicles, representing the first Serval acquisition for the Belgian Armed Forces. This procurement grants Belgium access to the complete suite of SCORPION program vehicles, substantially enhancing its military capabilities and interoperability with key allies, particularly France.

In a parallel development, Luxembourg has formally joined the CaMo program through this Belgian framework. The Luxembourg Army’s Guide-Chasseurs Battalion will be equipped with 38 Jaguar armored reconnaissance and combat vehicles and 16 Griffon vehicles. Luxembourg’s inclusion, executed under the NATO Defence Planning Process (NDPP), extends the community of SCORPION users and deepens European defense collaboration amid a shifting security landscape.

This milestone order reinforces the industrial partnership at the heart of the program. The majority of the vehicles will be assembled in Belgium at the MOL CY facility and fitted with remote weapon stations from Belgian manufacturer FN HERSTAL. Notably, the Serval vehicles will see an expanded Belgian industrial role, with more extensive local assembly than previous Griffon variants. The contract also establishes a dedicated supply chain for spare parts, ensuring high operational readiness for the newly equipped units in both nations.

The acquisition directly supports Belgium’s capability commitments to NATO and strengthens collective European defense. By standardizing on SCORPION-family vehicles—designed and produced by temporary consortia of KNDS France, Arquus, Thales, and Texelis—the CaMo program ensures that Belgian and Luxembourgish forces can operate seamlessly alongside French units, delivering both enhanced military effectiveness and sustained industrial return for the Benelux region.
