DroneShield Announces South Australia R&D Facility

by BDR Staff

DroneShield, a global leader in counter-drone and electronic warfare (EW) solutions, has announced a $13 million investment to establish a new research and development (R&D) facility in Adelaide, South Australia. This three-year investment in capital and operational expenditure is a direct contribution to the state’s economy and underscores the company’s rapid growth.

The new Adelaide facility will initially create approximately 20 high-skilled engineering roles, focusing on radio frequency (RF) electronics, EW, and systems integration. This strategic expansion complements DroneShield’s existing Sydney operations and was chosen due to Adelaide’s concentration of leading defence and aerospace organisations, a highly skilled workforce, and established advanced technology infrastructure.

The announcement coincides with DroneShield surpassing 400 employees globally, nearly doubling its team in the past year. The majority of these employees are software and hardware engineers, reinforcing its position as a technology-driven company. With around 100 roles still open, this expansion is critical to accelerating the development of next-generation counter-drone and EW technologies, supporting the company’s technology roadmap, and delivering advanced defence capabilities to global customers and allies with speed and scale.
