Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD) has announced a new Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) awarded to its Welin Lambie brand for the aftermarket support of davit systems across the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) fleet. This pivotal agreement, signed in July 2025, provides a structured framework to deliver OEM-quality parts, technical services, overhauls, and new systems, ensuring the long-term reliability and readiness of these critical launch-and-recovery assets.
The contract structure includes a base year with four one-year options, potentially extending support through 2030. A key feature is the pre-priced option years, designed to offer the Coast Guard predictable costs and a streamlined procurement process. This enables the rapid acquisition of necessary components and services to maintain operational tempo without delay.
“Welin Lambie davits are critical to ensuring that Coast Guard vessels can safely launch and recover boats in the most demanding conditions,” said Ben Dunscombe, Managing Director at Welin Lambie. “This award underscores our commitment to providing the highest level of technical support and aftermarket care, directly supporting fleet readiness and crew safety for a key maritime service.”
Davit systems are vital for USCG missions, enabling the safe deployment and retrieval of rescue craft for search-and-rescue, interdiction, and security operations. With over 70 davits already in service with the Coast Guard, Welin Lambie has built a strong reputation for engineering robust and dependable solutions.
To execute this contract, Welin Lambie will integrate the specialized overhaul capabilities of Fairbanks Morse Defense’s Federal Equipment Company (FEC). This collaboration creates an end-to-end support model, combining original manufacturing expertise with dedicated service proficiency. The result is intended to be improved lifecycle management, faster turnaround times for maintenance, and direct access to factory-certified technicians for the Coast Guard.
Ultimately, this contract strengthens the strategic service footprint of Fairbanks Morse Defense within the USCG, ensuring that these life-critical systems receive consistent, OEM-backed support to maximize vessel availability and mission success for years to come.
