French military awards Senop major contract for advanced sighting systems.

by BDR Staff

Finnish defense technology company Senop has secured a contract with the French Armament General Directorate (DGA) to supply its advanced AFCD TI fire control system. The agreement, finalized after an extensive multi-year evaluation, will see Senop’s cutting-edge smart sight integrated with Saab’s shoulder-fired systems for the French Armed Forces.

The path to the contract involved a deep collaborative effort between Senop, the DGA, and Saab. Throughout the development phase, Senop engineers conducted rigorous testing and customization to ensure the AFCD TI met the French military’s specific technical demands. This process validated the system’s performance, leading the DGA to select it as the most technically advanced solution for its operational requirements.

“This award is a significant milestone in our international growth strategy and a testament to our commitment to high-performance, reliable technology,” said Aki Korhonen, President of Senop Oy. “We are proud to have earned the trust of the DGA and are eager to begin deliveries while strengthening our partnership in the future.”

Deliveries under the contract are set to begin in 2026. Senop’s responsibilities extend beyond production to include comprehensive training, maintenance support, and lifecycle services, ensuring sustained operational readiness for the French troops.

A New Standard in Targeting Technology

At the heart of the contract is the Senop AFCD TI, a fully digital, next-generation sight designed to dramatically enhance the capabilities of Saab’s Carl-Gustaf® M3 and M4 systems. Unlike traditional sights, the AFCD TI doubles the effective engagement range in any condition, day or night, by integrating thermal, day, and fusion imaging channels into a single, compact unit.

The system combines a laser rangefinder with advanced ballistic and lead calculation, significantly improving first-hit accuracy. It is the only sight qualified for these weapon systems that offers such a comprehensive suite of features in one lightweight package. Designed and manufactured in Finland, the AFCD TI sets a new benchmark for modern combat effectiveness, catering to a wide range of users from conscripts to special operations forces.

Lasse Elomaa, Product Manager at Senop, highlighted the engineering achievement: “Our R&D team dedicated substantial effort to tailoring this system to precise end-user specifications. The AFCD TI has now reached full maturity and supports multiple Saab weapon systems, making it an ideal choice for forces operating diverse shoulder-fired weapons.”

Due to contractual confidentiality and the prevailing security environment, specific financial details and delivery quantities have not been disclosed.
