General Dynamics Land Systems–UK and Ricardo have announced a strategic collaboration to develop a bespoke vehicle for the British Army’s Light Mobility Vehicle Programme (LMVP). Based on the 5-Star NCAP-rated Ford Ranger, the solution integrates advanced technology from both partners to create a best-in-class, Off-The-Shelf (OTS) platform.
The vehicle, showcased in militarised 4×4 and 6×6 variants at DSEI, meets the Army’s stringent demands for payload, mobility, and through-life support. Utilizing the 2025 Ford Ranger Super Duty, it maintains class-leading safety, a payload of up to 2,000kg, and enhanced powertrain options. This COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) conversion is scalable, durable, and perfectly aligned with the UK Ministry of Defence’s Land Industrial Strategy (LIS).
The partnership leverages extensive UK-based manufacturing and engineering capabilities, representing a major investment in British industry, job creation, and supply chain resilience. By combining General Dynamics’ programme leadership with Ricardo’s technical innovation, the collaboration delivers a proven, cost-effective, and operationally excellent solution for the Army’s future light mobility needs.
