The Ministry of Defence of Ghana has signed a significant contract with Airbus Helicopters to acquire four advanced aircraft. The order comprises two multi-mission H175M helicopters, one ACH175, and one ACH160, marking a strategic enhancement of the country’s aviation capabilities across military and executive transport sectors.

The two new H175M helicopters will serve as versatile assets for the Ghanaian military, tasked with critical operations including troop and logistical transport, search and rescue (SAR), emergency medical services (EMS), and disaster relief. The ACH175 and the ACH160 will join the national fleet dedicated to VIP and executive transport duties.

This landmark deal signifies Airbus Helicopters’ return to Ghana, accompanied by a strong emphasis on long-term customer support and partnership. Arnaud Montalvo, Head of Africa and the Middle East Region for Airbus Helicopters, highlighted the importance of the contract. “We are particularly excited that the H175M will be operated in Ghana, demonstrating the aircraft’s versatility across defence and security missions,” Montalvo stated. He further noted that the order positions Ghana as “a leading customer in West Africa for our premium corporate helicopters, the ACH160 and ACH175.”

The H175, in service since 2014, is a super-medium class helicopter renowned for its optimal blend of long-range, substantial payload capacity, and smooth flight characteristics. This makes it an ideal platform for the diverse and demanding missions outlined by Ghana, from offshore search and rescue to complex military operations and disaster response.

The ACH160, the newest addition to the ACH (Airbus Corporate Helicopters) family, represents the cutting edge of rotary-wing technology. Incorporating 68 patented Airbus technologies, it is hailed as the world’s most technologically advanced helicopter in its class. It offers passengers a superior cabin experience, providing 20% more volume per passenger than its predecessors and featuring windows 35% larger than competitors, creating the brightest cabin in the medium twin-engine helicopter category.

This comprehensive acquisition underscores Ghana’s commitment to modernizing its national aviation resources with versatile, high-performance aircraft tailored for both sovereign mission readiness and elite transportation.
