GKN Aerospace has entered a strategic partnership with Anduril Industries UK to lead the development of advanced uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) and rotorcraft technologies for UK defence. The collaboration directly targets two key forthcoming British Army programmes: the Land Autonomous Collaborative Platform (ACP) and Project NYX, a next-generation uncrewed rotorcraft initiative.

The alliance, which also incorporates Archer’s expertise in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technology for Project NYX, aims to deliver modern sovereign capability while strengthening the UK’s industrial base. Formalised at a signing ceremony at GKN Aerospace’s Cowes facility on the Isle of Wight, the partnership was attended by local MP Richard Quigley, who highlighted its significance for regional manufacturing and job creation.

Under the agreement, GKN Aerospace will take the lead on structural design, systems integration, and manufacturing. This work will leverage its world-class capabilities in aerostructures and electrical wiring interconnection systems (EWIS). The company’s recent £10 million investment in its Cowes site, which includes state-of-the-art cleanrooms and training facilities, will be central to delivering the programmes. GKN Aerospace is already the largest private employer on the Isle of Wight with nearly 1,000 staff at the facility.

The partnership is expected to generate significant economic benefits. Over the next three years, successful contract awards could create more than 100 new highly skilled engineering and manufacturing roles on the Island.

“This is collaboration and aerospace innovation at its best,” said Dave Bond, Senior Vice President of Defence Technology at GKN Aerospace. “Combining our advanced manufacturing with Anduril’s innovative defence technologies allows us to offer an industry-leading solution for the UK Army at pace.”

Rich Drake, Managing Director of Anduril Industries UK, stated: “We are excited to be working with such an established and trusted partner in British manufacturing. We’re proud to partner with GKN on leading defence capabilities that will enhance the lethality and survivability of our Armed Forces.”

Adam Goldstein, CEO of Archer, added: “With Archer’s eVTOL technologies, Anduril’s autonomy, and GKN Aerospace’s industrial capability, we have a team that can deliver the next generation of advanced aviation for the UK.”

MP Richard Quigley welcomed the news: “This partnership is exceptionally positive for the Isle of Wight. It proves that innovative, high-tech manufacturing is being developed right here, supporting local jobs and vital skills growth.”
