Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has successfully demonstrated a new, autonomous national border protection system, developed to meet the specific requirements of Israel’s defense establishment. This integrated solution is designed to provide a comprehensive, lethal response to multi-domain threats on land, in the air, and at sea, across all of Israel’s complex borders.
The system’s core is a centralized AI-powered mission system. It fuses intelligence from a vast array of advanced sensors—including radars, electro-optical systems, and UAVs—with available weapon systems. This architecture creates a unified operational picture and dramatically shortens the “sensor-to-shooter” loop, enabling rapid, often autonomous threat detection and neutralization. Connectivity spans from space-based assets down to autonomous ground vehicles in the field.
Key technologies showcased in the demos included the ELM-2058, an intelligence-gathering UAV with all-weather tracking via advanced miniaturized SAR radar; the APUS 60, a VTOL UAV with reconnaissance capabilities and an integrated weapon station for rapid engagement; and the Blue Sky Warden, a light border patrol aircraft developed with L3Harris.
IAI President and CEO Boaz Levy emphasized the system’s strategic necessity. “Israel faces diverse threats with no strategic depth, requiring rapid neutralization far from our territory,” he stated. “This autonomous, robust solution provides a relevant response across the entire threat spectrum while protecting soldiers’ lives. It is the first system of its kind successfully demonstrated in Israel.”
The solution, proven in both routine and emergency scenarios, represents over two years of dedicated development. IAI positions it as a game-changing, integrated platform, leveraging artificial intelligence and seamless communication to safeguard national security with unprecedented speed and coordination.
