Kraken Robotics secures $12M sonar and battery orders.

by BDR Staff

Kraken Robotics has secured purchase orders valued at approximately $12 million for its synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) systems and subsea battery solutions. The orders, received from a mix of defense and commercial clients as the fiscal year concludes, underscore the broad demand for the company’s dual-use technologies.

The new contracts involve several key products and partners. Teledyne Marine ordered Kraken SAS and SeaPower™ batteries for integration onto its Gavia and SeaRaptor autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for end-user clients. Separately, geospatial data company Terradepth placed an order for SAS to be deployed within its Absolute Ocean operating system, enhancing its autonomous survey capabilities for U.S. military and offshore energy sectors. Additional orders for KATFISH™ towed SAS spares and SeaPower batteries came directly from two separate navies within NATO, marking a significant defense sector commitment.

President and CEO Greg Reid noted the timing and strategic nature of the orders. “As we near the end of the calendar year, we are seeing many expected orders coming through before budgets reset, including two new SeaPower battery customers,” Reid stated. “Clients are from both defence and commercial organizations, highlighting how Kraken’s dual-use technology is critical across a variety of applications, from maritime security to offshore energy.”

A central tenet of Kraken’s product design is platform-agnostic integration. Both the high-resolution SAS sensors and the high-energy-density SeaPower batteries are engineered to be compatible with a vast range of underwater vehicles, from small man-portable AUVs to extra-large unmanned vehicles (XLUUVs). This flexibility allows partners like Teledyne and Terradepth to seamlessly incorporate Kraken’s advanced subsystems into their own offerings, delivering enhanced capabilities to their end-users.

The $12 million in new business reinforces Kraken’s position as a leading provider of advanced subsea solutions. The company’s technologies, now supporting clients in over 30 countries, are deployed for critical missions in seabed mapping, mine countermeasures, infrastructure inspection, and marine research. These latest orders from established industry partners and direct defense forces demonstrate growing market validation for Kraken’s approach to enabling safer and more efficient ocean operations.
