The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $90.5 million foreign military sale to the Government of Lebanon, consisting of Medium Tactical Vehicles (MTVs) and associated support. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has formally notified Congress of the agreement.

Lebanon’s request includes 5-ton M1085A2 and 2.5-ton M1078A2 vehicles, both configured without winches. The proposed package also encompasses spare parts, technical documentation, personnel training, and comprehensive logistics support services.

Officials state the sale aligns with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by bolstering the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). Enhancing Lebanon’s security is viewed as supporting a key partner for stability in the Middle East. The new vehicles are intended to improve the LAF’s mobility and responsiveness, enabling more effective counter-terrorism operations and perimeter security missions. Additionally, the capability is expected to facilitate further U.S.-Lebanon military training and cooperation. The assessment concludes that Lebanon will readily integrate this equipment into its existing forces.

The U.S. government does not anticipate this sale will disrupt the regional military balance or impact U.S. defense readiness. No additional U.S. government or contractor personnel will need to be stationed in Lebanon to support the implementation.

Oshkosh Defense in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is identified as the principal contractor. The U.S. government currently notes no offset agreements related to this potential sale, though any such agreements would be established between Lebanon and the contractor.

The stated $90.5 million value reflects the highest estimated cost based on initial requirements. The final dollar amount may be lower pending detailed negotiations, final budget authority, and the conclusion of a formal sales agreement.
