In a recent ceremony, Lockheed Martin delivered its 350th MH-60R “Romeo” multi-mission helicopter to the U.S. Navy, marking a major production milestone for the world’s premier naval helicopter. The aircraft was accepted by HSM-41, the Navy’s “Seahawks” Fleet Replacement Squadron, which trains Pacific Fleet aircrews to operate the advanced platform.
Celebrated as the globe’s foremost anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopter, the MH-60R combines powerful sensors, integrated mission systems, and network-centric capabilities. “This delivery is a testament to the exceptional capabilities of this aircraft and the dedication of our team,” said Ali Ruwaih, Maritime Systems vice president at Lockheed Martin. “We are proud to support the U.S. Navy and our global partners with this critical multi-mission platform.”
The helicopter’s combat effectiveness was recently demonstrated in operational theaters, where it successfully engaged and neutralized hostile drone and surface threats in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, safeguarding vital maritime shipping lanes. Its versatility was further showcased in the multinational Resolute Hunter exercise, enhancing coordinated ASW efforts with allied forces.
Captain William Hargreaves, the Navy’s H-60 program manager, emphasized its enduring value: “This true multi-mission asset has proven itself globally. We are grateful for the artisans at Sikorsky [a Lockheed Martin company] for keeping this invaluable asset at the ready for decades to come.”
Designed with an open-architecture avionics suite, the MH-60R allows for rapid integration of future technologies, ensuring its relevance. With a service life projected into the 2050s, the active production line supports both new deliveries and fleet modernizations.
Having logged over one million flight hours, the MH-60R serves the U.S. Navy and international partners including Australia, Denmark, India, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea, with upcoming deliveries scheduled for Spain and Norway. This fleet continues to be a cornerstone of 21st-century maritime security.
