Naval Group expands its in-service support for Egypt’s fleet.

by BDR Staff

Building on a decade of strategic partnership, Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy have solidified their long-term alliance with a significant contract extension. The two entities have signed a new five-year agreement for the in-service support (ISS) of key Egyptian naval assets, ensuring the high availability and operational readiness of the fleet.

This renewed pact extends the ISS framework established in 2019 and deepens the collaborative focus on comprehensive technical and logistical support. Under the new terms, Naval Group’s teams of engineers and technicians will provide sustained maintenance for seven critical vessels. The covered fleet includes the advanced multi-mission frigate (FREMM) Tahya Misr, the two formidable Egyptian Landing Helicopter Docks (E-LHD) Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar El Sadat, and the four versatile Gowind® corvettes: El Fateh, Port Said, El Moez, and Al Ismailia.

More than a maintenance contract, this agreement represents a cornerstone for continued industrial and technological cooperation. It guarantees Naval Group’s sustained presence in Egypt and is designed to foster significant local development. A key pillar of the expanded collaboration is the commitment to transferring expertise and creating skilled employment opportunities. Naval Group plans to recruit and train additional Egyptian personnel, expanding its in-country teams and further embedding specialized knowledge within the local defense ecosystem.

Furthermore, the partnership is actively looking to broaden its impact on the Egyptian industrial landscape. Discussions are progressing to establish new partnerships with Egyptian defense suppliers and shipyards. These local companies are slated to play an increasing role in the maintenance operations, working alongside Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy. This initiative not only ensures efficient support but also contributes directly to the growth of Egypt’s indigenous maritime defense capabilities.

Ultimately, this contract extension underscores a shared vision for a sovereign and interoperable naval force. By combining Naval Group’s technological mastery with the Egyptian Navy’s operational expertise and a growing local industrial base, the partnership is poised to ensure the long-term performance of the fleet while reinforcing Egypt’s strategic maritime autonomy in the region.
