Saab has secured a significant order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for its Trackfire Remote Weapon Station (RWS), valued at approximately 1.5 billion Swedish kronor. Booked in the final quarter of 2025, deliveries are scheduled between 2026 and 2028.
The systems are destined for the Swedish Army and the transformative Amphibious Battalion 2030 project, which is shaping the future of Sweden’s littoral strike capabilities. This selection underscores the platform’s role in modernizing national defence infrastructure.
“We are honoured that Trackfire RWS has been chosen as a cornerstone for the future Swedish amphibious forces and Army,” stated Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s Surveillance business area. “This order highlights our commitment to providing advanced, adaptable solutions that address contemporary security challenges. The precision and reliability of Trackfire will be a vital asset for operational effectiveness.”
The Trackfire RWS is a fully stabilized, remotely operated dual-weapon station designed for precision engagement on the move. Its platform-agnostic design allows for deployment on naval vessels, combat vehicles, and fixed defensive positions.
A key element of this FMV contract is the integration of the new Trackfire ARES (Aerial Response) variant. This configuration is equipped with a 30×113 mm M230LF Bushmaster chain gun as its primary armament, specifically selected to provide a robust counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) capability against drone threats. The order signifies a strategic enhancement of Sweden’s layered defence, directly addressing the evolving demands of modern asymmetric and hybrid warfare scenarios.
