Since its 2020 launch, the Sparrow family has seen strong global adoption, with accumulated sales and orders now surpassing 8,000 units. The detector’s success is attributed to its low size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) design, which provides high reliability, long operational life, and robust imaging performance. Based on SCD’s mature, third-generation High Operating Temperature (HOT) technology, the Sparrow offers maximal system adaptability for fast integration across various platforms.

Company executives highlighted that this repeat order underscores customer confidence in SCD’s field-proven HOT technology, which has been in volume production for over 15 years. Building on this success, SCD has also introduced the Sparrow-HD, which features the industry’s first 5μm pixel pitch for enhanced detection and identification.

The compact and efficient architecture of the Sparrow series enables use in applications previously limited by larger sensor technologies, including handheld imagers, UAVs, and remote weapon stations. This major contract reflects the accelerating demand for high-performance, compact IR detectors in advanced airborne and multi-domain platforms, allowing for rapid integration and operational flexibility for next-generation missions.
