Sweden has finalized the acquisition of four C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft from Embraer, marking a significant step in European defense cooperation. This purchase is a key component of a trilateral partnership with Austria and the Netherlands, aimed at fostering joint procurement, interoperability, and long-term support around the C-390 platform. The contract includes seven additional purchase options, indicating growing European interest and paving the way for future acquisitions by other nations.

The official ceremony at Uppsala Air Base was attended by Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson and representatives from other operator nations, including the Netherlands, Brazil, and Hungary. This move makes Sweden the latest NATO member to join the strategic C-390 partnership, following a collective order for nine aircraft by the Netherlands and Austria in 2024.

Officials from Sweden, Embraer, and partner nations emphasized that the C-390 will enhance Sweden’s operational capabilities and tactical airlift modernization. The aircraft, which has proven its reliability with a 93% mission capability rate, can carry 26 tons, operate from unpaved runways, and perform diverse missions from troop transport to aerial refueling. This partnership sets a new standard for efficiency and shared security in Europe.
