by BDR Staff

Telesat, in partnership with the Government of Canada and MDA Space, has been selected to deliver a next-generation military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) system for the Arctic. This strategic partnership, under Canada’s Enhanced Satellite Communications Project – Polar (ESCP-P), will provide the Canadian Armed Forces with a secure, multi-frequency capability to bolster operations in the northern regions.

The multi-billion dollar project aims to strengthen Arctic sovereignty and meet Canada’s NORAD and NATO commitments by deploying a modern, resilient architecture for narrowband and wideband communications. The procurement is being managed by the new Defence Investment Agency (DIA), utilizing a partner model to accelerate development and delivery.

Telesat will leverage over 55 years of satellite expertise to lead the delivery of this critical infrastructure, building on its long history of supporting Canadian military connectivity. The project is expected to act as a catalyst for significant investment and high-value job creation across Canada’s space and defence supply chain, guided by the Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) Policy to maximize domestic economic growth.
