To Grow in Argentina, Flytec Adds a De Havilland Dash 8.

In a strategic move to enhance its operational portfolio, Argentine airline Flytec has taken delivery of a refurbished Dash 8-400 from De Havilland Canada. This acquisition introduces a new aircraft type to the carrier’s growing fleet, specifically aimed at strengthening its service contracts within the nation’s robust mining industry.

The addition of the Dash 8-400 represents a calculated investment in versatility. While Flytec already operates a mix of regional aircraft, the 80-seat capacity and speed of the Dash 8-400 allow the airline to transport larger work crews and heavier cargo to sites that were previously difficult to service efficiently. Its ability to operate from short, unprepared airstrips near mining camps transforms logistics for their clients, reducing the need for slow ground transport.

Mateo Zambruno, Chief Executive Officer at Flytec, highlighted the economic and logistical rationale behind the purchase. “As we looked to expand our support for mining operations, we needed an aircraft that offered greater payload and range, but could still land where the mines are—often in remote, high-altitude valleys. The Dash 8-400 stood out for its performance and economic viability on these routes.”

De Havilland Canada’s involvement went beyond just providing the airframe. By opting for a DHC refurbished unit, Flytec gains the confidence of an OEM-backed warranty and certification, mitigating the risks often associated with second-hand aircraft acquisitions. The aircraft features a modern cabin configuration designed to balance passenger comfort with the quick-change versatility required for mixed cargo and personnel flights.

“This delivery underscores the enduring value of the Dash 8-400 in specialized markets,” stated Ryan DeBrusk of De Havilland Canada. “Flytec recognized that the aircraft’s combination of speed, fuel efficiency, and ruggedness provides a unique competitive advantage for supporting remote industrial operations. We look forward to a long partnership as they continue to grow.” The arrival of the aircraft marks a new chapter for Flytec, positioning them as a key logistics partner for Argentina’s resource sector.
