TrueNoord, a specialist regional aircraft lessor, has completed the sale of two Embraer E190 aircraft to its existing customer, South African airline Airlink. The aircraft were delivered in December 2025.
Amidst persistent global supply chain challenges, Airlink’s acquisition is a strategic move aimed at bolstering the resilience of its existing fleet. The airline, which operates the largest Embraer fleet on the African continent, plans to initially use the two airframes as a source of high-demand parts and will retain the engines as valuable spares. This approach is designed to mitigate maintenance delays and support operational reliability. The airline is also evaluating potential future operational use for the aircraft.
Maarten Grift, Sales Director at TrueNoord, remarked on the deal: “This transaction underscores TrueNoord’s commitment to supporting operators with flexible solutions that address today’s operational challenges. We were pleased to work with Airlink’s experienced and knowledgeable team and help strengthen their fleet resilience despite dynamic market conditions.”
Echoing the strategic nature of the purchase, Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht stated: “Securing these aircraft is a strategic move to safeguard the reliability of our Embraer fleet. By acquiring additional engines and components, we can mitigate the impact of global supply chain disruptions and maintain the high standards of service our customers expect. We value our partnership with TrueNoord and appreciate their flexibility in completing this transaction.”
Richard Jacobs, Chief Commercial Officer at TrueNoord, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the sale. “Further strengthening our existing relationship with this leading African operator, our joint collaborative efforts ensured the sale was finalised in a timely, streamlined and efficient manner. It was a pleasure working with Airlink’s entire team, and we look forward to partnering again on future opportunities.”
Jacobs also extended thanks to the aircraft’s previous lessee, Breeze Airways, for their support throughout the transition process. The transaction demonstrates how lessors and airlines are working collaboratively to develop innovative asset solutions that address current industry pressures, ensuring continued operational stability and service for passengers.
