Vertical Aerospace , a leader in electric aviation, has formalised a long-term strategic supplier partnership with advanced materials leader Syensqo. This agreement cements a years-long collaboration, with Syensqo’s high-performance composites and adhesives now selected for the certification and production of Vertical’s VX4 electric aircraft, which is targeting entry into service in 2028.
The partnership is a cornerstone of Vertical’s industrialisation plan. Syensqo’s lightweight, durable materials are critical for the structural efficiency required in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) operations, which involve high-frequency flight cycles. This selection ensures the VX4 airframe can withstand the rigours of commercial service while maintaining safety and performance at scale.
“This deepened partnership with Syensqo is a vital step as we bring the VX4 to market,” said Stuart Simpson, CEO of Vertical Aerospace. “Their decades of expertise in aerospace-grade composites, aligned with our focus on certification, will help us deliver a resilient aircraft for commercial operations.”
Syensqo brings proven aerospace pedigree, supplying major aircraft manufacturers and defense primes globally. “We are honoured to support Vertical’s journey,” stated Rodrigo Elizondo, President of Syensqo Composite Materials. “Our technologies are designed to push the boundaries of lightweight performance, contributing to safer and cleaner air mobility.”
The announcement underscores Vertical’s strategy of building a world-class supply chain for its certification programme, which already includes partners like Honeywell for avionics and Aciturri for airframe manufacturing. This network is designed to de-risk the path to production and scale.
Vertical is poised to unveil its refined VX4 design on 10 December in London. The event will showcase the aircraft’s final passenger cabin, luggage capacity, and its mature, certification-ready architecture, marking a significant milestone as the company progresses from prototyping to industrialisation.
